The holidays are right around the corner, and Elisabet Der Nederlanden’s Holiday Cookies is a great book to check out if you’re looking for new holiday-themed cookie recipes for yourself or for a cookie exchange.
This cookbook features all sorts of cookie recipes, from the basic, royal icing, cut out cookies to the more complex. There’s a whole section on spiced cookies, which I especially liked. These cookies (and others in the book) combine unique flavors with more traditional cookie ideas into fun, new creations.
There’s a lot of variety in this book and a whole lot of different cookies, which means you’ll definitely find something that you want to make. The recipes, for the most part, are also quite simple. They don’t call for many ingredients and they follow standard cookie-making procedures (plus some flourishes for the fancier cookies). That said, some of the recipes do call for more specialized materials, such as European-style butter, which might be harder to come by. Even in these recipes, though, do not call for a long list of special materials.
The book also includes some ideas for packaging cookies, which is fun for the holiday season. Looking to try out some new cookie recipes? Give this book a shot!
I received a copy of this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
